Offered fall quarter, this course is an introduction to the field of physics for liberal arts students and students exploring science as a major.

Discoveries in Physics (6 Credits)


Offered every quarter except fall including evening during winter, this course is an inquiry based (hands-on) introduction to Optics, Electricity, and Mechanics for students with no prior experience with physics.

Physics 109

Science for Information Technology (6 Credits)

Offered fall quarter, this course explores the science behind much of modern technology- including computers and data transmission- as a vehicle for teaching research and problem solving skills. The course is designed for information technology students, with a great deal of hands-on group project work. Magnetism, electricity, and microchip circuitry are representative course topics. At the end of the course students will transmit their own voices across the room using circuits they construct.

• Algebra Based Sequence: A survey of physics for general science majors. A sound background in algebra is necessary for success in this sequence.  This sequence is also presented once each year in the evenings.

Offered fall, winter, and summer quarters including a complete evening sequence beginning winter, this is the first course in the algebra based sequence. P114 focuses on the field of Mechanics. Topics include: motion and force, Conservation of energy and momentum, and gravity.
