Join us October 10 and 11 for a linked pair of meetings hosted by the Washington section of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) and Physics Teachers Education Coalition (PTEC). Friday's sessions are sponsored by PTEC and hosted at Seattle Pacific University (SPU) while the Saturday meeting is sponsored by WA-AAPT and hosted at Bellevue Community College (BCC).

Note that while we expect significant interest overlap these are separate meetings so you are free to attend either one or both. This flexibility requires you to register separately for each day. Use the link at left for WA-AAPT registration (Sat.) and follow the link to the PTEC site to register for that meeting (Fri.).

The NW PTEC meeting at Seattle Pacific University will focus on the national crisis in physics teacher preparation and the role that physics departments can play in the recruitment, preparation and support of teachers of physics. You can obtain additional information on the PTEC meeting page.

WA-AAPT talks will continue the conversation from last year concerning modern physics in the introductory course and extend this to the broader question of changes to the introductory course that reflect contemporary research and changing professional opportunities. For further details see AAPT Meeting Theme.

It is particularly appropriate to take up these questions in a joint meeting of this kind. We have an opportunity to initiate a conversation that can set the direction for our classrooms for years to come, and connect this with the training of new physics teachers at the outset.
