What's New
Thanks to everyone you participated in Earth Week 2008
On behalf of the Student Science Association, thanks for participating in the ninth annual Earth Week celebration! Over 1600 students participated in the lecture and film series alone! Approximately 40 additional students participated in the restoration projects on Friday. Many more participated in the fashion show, cafeteria displays and toxic product testing. Furthermore, we were very pleased to have the participation of the children of the ELFCC this year.
Keep an eye out - planning for our 10th anniversary (2009) will be starting in the Fall!
Earth Week Haiku entries and "Tip of the Day" emails are now posted
- See the 50 entries to the First Annual Earth Week Haiku Contest, including winners.

April 20th Update - Earth Week is here - come celebrate with us!
The planning is done - now it is time to enjoy the show!
In addition to activities, the SSA will be selling copies of The Better World Shopping Guide - a highly-praised, pocket-sized guide that “grades” companies on their social and environmental practices – for $10. All profits from the sale of the book during Earth Week will be donated to the Student Safety Net Campaign.
First Annual Earth Week Haiku Contest
In honor of Tuesday-speaker Bill Kupinse being named this week as the first Poet Laureate of Tacoma, and in celebration of National Poetry Month, we’d like to invite you to participate in our First Annual Earth Week Haiku Contest.
Anyone can enter – no experience or expertise necessary. Just write a three line haiku (5-7-5 syllables) about something related to the Earth, nature, the environment, climate, consumption, toxins, urban wildlife, rainforests, etc. Submit it to Rob Viens by email (rviens@bcc.ctc.edu), or drop off a paper copy at the Earth Week table in the cafeteria (outside of C130), by the end of the day Thursday (my midnight, if it comes by email). Send as many entries as you like. We’ll post them all to this web site and students of the SSA will pick their favorites and award some prizes. We’re not talkin’ anything fancy here – we just want to have a little fun!
